Prague: The Golden City

Prague is known as the Golden City on the Vltava River and is the ideal location to begin our Czech Republic itinerary.  Starting right here on tracks, Tram number 22, will take you up to Prague Castle where you can learn a bit of the Czech history and see the city from its most beautiful vantage point.

While the sandstone towers shimmer in golden shades when the sun shines, will wonder why you hadn’t visited sooner. In a city that will not disappoint, throw back a beer in beer lover’s paradise or you partake in a beer spa, visit Old Town Square for a trdelnik, a spiraled cinnamon sugar pastry, or take a paddleboat ride on the Vltava River.

Pilsen: Years Of Beer Culture

Home to the first beer brewed according to the Pilsner brewing method, Pilsner Urquell, is a brewery worth a visit. The brewery museum takes you from the historical origins of beer culture to the present day, where 120,000 bottles of beer are bottled in Pilsen alone.

Another highlight of the city is Gothic St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral. If the famous “little mole” from the Czech cartoon series was a hero of your childhood, you should definitely visit the Pilsen Doll Museum.

České Budějovice: South Bohemian City With Flair

Another great spot to sip on a beer is in České Budějovice, also known as Budweis, where the original Budweiser beer hails from. A brewery tour here is definitely a must, and especially to learn more about the controversy between the Anheuser-Busch Budweiser and the national pride of the Czech Budweiser.

Although the city lacks top attractions apart from the brewery, the city of 100,000 never feels crowded and has delightful winding lanes and alleyways. Take a walk up 225 stairs to the top of the Black Tower to the viewing terrace, after this you may want to enjoy a refreshing beverage on the Vltava river.

To travel from České Budějovice (Budweis) to Český Krumlov by train you can take a local train. There are severeal daily connections. There is also a daily Intercity train from České Budějovice (Budweis) to Český Krumlov. The Intercity departs at 11:15 and takes only 36 minutes. Book here.

Ceský Krumlov: ​The Czech Fairytale Town

As if you’re stepping into a scene from a fairytale, the colorful buildings, the castle, and the winding river make all the visitors fall in love with the town. It’s fun to wander around the streets but during certain times of the year, the International Music Festival Český Krumlov and the Five Petaled Rose Festival are worth attending.

Whether you want to enjoy the river by night, there are night rafting explorations with a trained guide under the moon and also water tubs for daytime river enjoyment. Thirsty from touring the city? We recommend the so-called smoked dude, “Nakourený vihák“, a dark Bohemian lager.
